    headers

i have a 2001 tiburon and am going to be puttin in some headers in like 4 days, but was told that the stock stuff is connected to a catylitic converter and removin it could cause problems to my car... check engine light etc. so if anyone out there has done this mod to their car could they tell me what they did and their results.

    Re: headers

So I'm getting my "Shark Racing" header installed on Aug.8th.This is what the shop that I'm going to said. You will loose one of  2 cat's.(thats good for extra hp)Reuse the other one,but it has to be placed down the pipe abit.My header came with an area to mount one of the two O2 sensor's. The other sensor has to be remounted into the exhaust pipe after the cat.The wiring on the second O2 sensor has to be lengthen to fit.I do believe something could be done with a programable mod chip If you want to get rid of both cat's but someone else would have to verify that.Larrs

    Re: headers

    Hey guys,

I know this may be a little late, but..... You don't need CATS, unless you're worried about being caught durring emisson test.  I know this cause i just do.  Me a friend rebuilt his Trans Am over the summer and he had to run a new exhast on it cause he put headers on it and didn't feel like installing CATs.  So he designed a true dual system without cats.  All you do is install the first O2 sensor in the bung on the header, the one before the CAT, because thats the only one that matters.  The other one just makes sure that the CAT is working correctly.  To get around that, just make an O2 simulater for the second sensor.  Pretty sure everything you would need is avaible at your local Radio Shack.

Above is a link of how to make one.  While i'm not 100% sure this would work.  This is probably what i would do if you dont want to run a CAT or hook up your second O2 sensor due to it being too short.

    Later, Pat

    Re: headers

No porblem Larris, happy to hear it turned out great.  So you got a shark racing header.  Did you get that from the company, or did you buy it second hand?  If you bought if from Shark Racing, what did you think of the company.  I've heard bad things about them and was wondering how your experience was.

    Re: headers

The Header was order online from Shark Racing.Got my conformation right aways and the headers were in my hands 7 days later.I was very surprised how quick it was as they are in Korea. The box was a little damaged but the headers was in fine condition. The shop that put them in said it was one of the best headers he's put on as everything lined up perfectly.Did you know that the 2001 has 2 cats on it so I kept one just to keep it all legal and scrapped the other one.I'm very happy with the headers and the custom 2 1/4" s.steel pipe and of course the Ractive muffler.I had it installed with a silencer but took it out shortly after as you couldn't hear the rumble from the header, now it has more deeper sounding rumble.really sounds loud going through the gears at 5500 rpms but once your cruising down the road it has a rumble you more than expect from a 4 cyl.Big Smile.Larrs

    Re: headers

Awesome! I think i know the headers I'm gonna order now :D.  I have been looking at those for awhile, sence before I offically bought my car, but had heard bad things about Shark Racing so i got hesitant.  Probably just get those this summer if not later this year after I get caught up with my expeneces.  That is really fast, cause they are from Korea, crazy.  Yeah I think I knew that they had two cats.  Most cars have two cats per exhaust mainfold now a days.  If I put a header on my car I think i'm just gonna get rid of the CATs all together and put in some simulaters, but who knows.  Im not concerned about the legality of the issue.  If you get time man you should make a sound clip or drive by video and post it on here.  I would love to hear how it sounds.  God I want to make my car great, so many things running through my mind and no cash to do them.
